When it comes to unpacking shipping containers, Adelaide Staff Management knows its stuff
and when it comes to keeping safe while working, we always insure the safety of our team. Check out some of our safety tips below.
Take care when opening container doors! Watch for falling objects, be sure to slowly open doors, staying behind the metal doors as you open them. Open one door at a time.
Always plan for and know what product you are unpacking, when considering the product, look closely at the size and weight. It’s important only to have suitable staff members that can physically handle the containers contents working on the unpacking, that’s why it’s important to draft a plan on how you will unpack heavier products, for example 2 man lifts may be needed for some items.
Rotate staff between jobs and give workers plenty of rest opportunities.
Use approved safety steps to reach highly stacked items within the container.
Always insure containers have been approved to open and you are authorised to do so, there are some instances that you can not open a shipping container due to customs inspection.
Have a traffic management plan in place for the site you are working at, set out cones and signs to alert traffic that workers are unpacking in the area.
When entering a shipping container with a forklift insure that the container is clear and all unpacking staff are outside the container in a designated safety zone before entering the with a forklift.
Have all staff stand in a designated safety zone when not directly working on the in the container.
Only use licensed forklift operators and use approved aids to assist you unpack like roller tables, pallets, forklifts.
Wrap and secure pallets of stock before moving them out the container.
